The Coconut diet plan is created on the basis of the research that compares the coconut-rich diets from the South Pacific cultures to the standard diets which are popular in the western world. According to the Coconut diet you should add the coconut oil to the nutrition plan similar to the Atkins diet. This diet can help you lose weight faster and improve thyroid function.

Coconut diet similar to Atkins
Like the Atkins Diet, the Coconut Diet also includes four phases which contain a low-carb eating plan. The major difference between these two diets is that you should add to your daily calorie intake 2-3 tablespoons of coconut oil. The Phase 1 of the Coconut diet is the strictest (like the Atkins diet). You can consume very small amount of carbs. Phase two involves detoxification of the colon and other vital organs during four weeks. On the Phase 3 and 4 you are taught how to consume carbs and maintain the weight which you have lost.

During the first three weeks on the Coconut diet you can eat such foods as chicken, turkey, fish and other lean meats. You should also take foods reach in protein such as eggs, cheese and nuts. Apart from 2-3 tablespoons of coconut oil it is recommended to drink up to ten glasses of water every day. The tips which can be given for the Phase 3 will depend on the positive results from detoxification.

However, it should be mentioned that coconut oil offered by the Coconut diet contains saturated fat. Most of the foods which should be consumed on the Coconut diet are rich in saturated fats which you can find in products derived from animals. Saturated fats as well as trans fats can increase the cholesterol levels. High cholesterol can create the risk of heart disease and stroke. The American Heart Association states that “Saturated fat intake should not exceed 7 percent of total calories per day.”

It is not useful to eat only one food on your diet, even if this food is healthy. It will be beneficial for your health and blood cholesterol levels if you consume some dietary fat every day and also perform physical activities.
