Some principles of this diet are based on the original Atkins diet (1972 version), hence its name. In 2007 the articles about this diet were published in People and Women's World magazines and it managed to pique the public interest.

There are different variations of Kimkins diet and some of them include only 500 calories per day. The main foods are lean proteins cooked with minimal fat. In fact the menu contains much less than this, nearly 5 grams useful carbohydrate and 7 grams fiber.

It is a very low calorie diet which means that it won’t provide you long lasting effect. Finally the need for survival takes over and your appetite can increase. Also it can lead to various health problems. Such very low-calorie diets must be controlled by the physician. In addition the most of the weight that you lose on this diet won’t be fat but muscle mass and other lean body tissue.
