Water Diet Basics
This diet was created by Douglas Silver Porter, a professor and scientist. Here are the main principles of water diet:  

 * You should drink  64 ounces of water a day and every day (64 ounces equal to one half gallon).

* Drink only cold water (50 degrees Fahrenheit or colder).

* It is beneficial to drink certain amount of water throughout the day and it is not recommended to drink  it at one time.

* Choose only pure water with no flavor, artificial sweeteners and non-carbonated.

Water diet is based on the theory that humana body uses energy to heat up water to body temperature.

Nearly 12 calories will be burnt when the body raises one pint of 50 degree Fahrenheit water to the normal body temperature of 98.6 degrees. So if you consume three pints of water per day and every ay for the whole year you will be able to burn 4500 calories which is equaling anywhere between one and a half pounds to more than three pounds of weight loss by the end of the year. Also this theory says that if you carry any extra water weigh around you can burn more calories than if that extra pound or so of water was not present. This also called the "carry factor" and gives you the opportunity to burn 12 to 18 calories a day per one pound of body weight.

Is the Water Diet Effective?
After a one year of following this diet you will be able to lose nearly five  without any other dietary changes. It should be also mentioned that this diet is not the answer to losing weight that may be causing serious health conditions. Water assists in transporting nutrients throughout the body, removing toxins, preventing dehydration and controling body temperature. Also it plays very important role in fat metabolism in the liver. Due to its ability toremove toxins from the body it also accelerates the release of toxins and fluids fron fat cells which results in rapid weight loss. Additionally the appetite suppression fills up the stomach cavity and serves as an extra mechanism of water and weight loss. This will help yu avoid the consumption of extra calories from your snacks.

How to Drink Water Properly?
1) Fill a 64 ounce pitcher every morning and finish it by the end of the day

2) You should always have a bottle of water on hand: keep it in your car, at your desk, on the kitchen counter, at your bedside and wherever you spend a lot of time and be sure to sip it throughout the day.

3) Drink a glass of water during each meal  (three glasses are essential)

Precautions
People suffering from congestive heart disease or other similar medical conditions should consult their doctors before following this diet to prevent edema and other health problems. Excessive fluid through the kidneys can strain the kidneys, which cna cause serious problems in people who have kidney disease. In addition water soluble vitamins, such as essential B vitamins, can be depleted from the body through excretion.
