What is Fruitarianism?

Fruitarianism is a diet that consists of mostly raw fruits with the remainder of the diet including raw vegetarian or raw vegan foods. You should understand fruit as the reproductive parts of a vine, bush, or tree that have a juicy pulp. This diet uses common definition rather than botanical which is broader. For instance, grain is also fruit under the botanical definition (but not the common definition).

In practice, fruitarianism is a very difficult diet. It has many drawbacks and negative effects from which a would-be fruitarian can suffer. Fruit in this diet are an ideal natural food. Today fruit is the product of generations (which may sometimes include thousands of years) of plant breeding directed by human. Modern fruit contain a lot of sugar and are not a perfect food.

A few people managed to achieve great results on the fruitarian diet. Also the high incidence of binge eating, "cheating," and backsliding in raw veganism raises serious questions regarding the credibility of the few claims of long-term success. You should use your common sense: it hasn’t been proved yet that fruitarianism is effective and provides long term results.

The Advantages of Fruitarianism
1. Fruit is the most delicious raw vegetarian food and everybody loves to eat it.

2. It is a kind of cleansing diet and if you use it for a short period of time it can serve as a therapeutic diet. This advice can be also applied to other raw food diets and non-vegetarian raw diets.

3. If fruit is grown locally and is not shipped, refrigerated, fumigated, subjected to heat/cold treatment to kill fruit flies, etc., it can also be a "low violence" food. But if fruit involved shipping, refrigerating, etc. it can be violent to the environment. In other words most fruit is neither "cruelty-free" nor "karma-free."

7. Fruitarian diet also improves your respiratory system.

8. Your senses of taste and smell can sharpen. Your sense of smell can become so sharp that you can’t be in the same room with a person that eats a lot of garlic and you won’t bear the smell of tobacco.

9.  There will be no need to drink a lot of water because fruit contain a lot of fluid.
